Is ebay.com really worth my effort?

Whether buying or selling, ebay is big part of the market place on the internet.

Ebay.com is likely a familiar name to you but perhaps you have never been onto ebay and you aren't really sure what ebay is really all about.  In a nutshell, ebay started as an auction only website where people could bid, buy and sell just about anything.  However, ebay has evolved over the years with many new facets to entice not only buyers but sellers as well.  They have answered many request from their internet community in providing things such as buy it now option for those who did not want to go through the hassle of bidding, ebay stores to make it easier for sellers to display all of their items and for a longer period of time, and a site specifically for automotive things to name a few.  You may be interested to know that before ebay was ebay it started under the name of auctionweb over labor day weekend in 1995 as a way for a gentleman named  Pierre Omidyar to create a way to trade Pez candy dispensers across the country, though that is not how he presented it to investors.  It wasn't until 1998 that the name was changed to ebay.

Ebay is an international company with localized sites in many countries and it is ever expanding.  They have acquired several companies in their short life span (10 years is not that long in brick and mortar, but an eternity online).  Among these, paypal, is the leading source for the exchange of funds on ebay transactions.  Also included in it's aquisitions are half.com, shopping.com, rent.com & skype.

Ebay has an ideal to to provide a safe marketplace for everyone by allowing members of the ebay community to in essence police each other through their feedback system, but that does not prevent all of the possible fraud that an international stage such as ebay can create.  The key is to know how to recognize possible fraud and follow some simple ebay safety tips.
