One of the most popular segments for blogging is in the mommy-blogs section. Most moms and women in general blog because they want to share something with their friends and relatives. Whether they are blogging about their family and the things that they are doing or about a particular niche that they feel good at, most women have no idea of the potential that they have to increase their readership and influence beyond the family and friends or make money with their blogs. Once that vision comes into play, the next question is always, "how do I do it"? Below is a list of some of the most basic things to consider implementing to get started in marketing your blog.

Choose a Niche, Style or Voice - One of the largest mistakes that are made when trying to market a blog is in trying to market a blog in which there is no real niche, style or voice. In other words, your family blog with nothing more than what you and your family are doing is not going to be marketable unless you have a life like the Osbourne's. You need to either choose a niche, such as gluten-free recipes, or comment with a certain style that connects with a large segment of people on current events and other interesting things. In either case, your style of writing should be all you. TRUST IN YOUR OWN VOICE and opinions.

Write, Write, Write - If you are going to develop a larger base of readership you need to be writing on a constant basis. Daily is great should the the goal in beginning. If you cannot do a daily blog post, you need to make sure that you write at least every 2-3 days in the beginning. Down the road you may be able to scale that back, but to start with you need to do a lot of blogging.

Share, Share, Share - If you are not sharing your blog post through social media then what is the point. I would recommend that you start by sharing it through Facebook and Twitter! Yes, for all of you none twitter people, I did say Twitter. While I know that you have a lot of friends on Facebook, you need to branch out to those you don't know. If you do not have one, sign up for a free Twitter account. I would recommend that you start by sharing through your personal accounts. Once things get ramped up, you will want to create a Facebook page and a twitter account for your blog.

Interact, Interact, Interact - Do not be afraid to respond to comments that you get on the blog posts, your Facebook account or your Twitter account. Interaction is going to keep your readership engaged. A lack of engagement is going to cause your readers to stop reading.

Monetize Your Blog - There are numerous ways that this can be done. To get your feet wet, start by signing up for a Google adsense account and implement some Google ads into your blog. This is not going to make you independently wealthy, but it is a way to get started. The more consistently you write and develop and grow your readership, the more potential you will have to make money through adsense. In a nutshell, all that has to happen to make money with adsense is for someone to click through one of the ads. That's it. If they do that, you make money.

In future posts, we will get more in depth about other ways to monetize your blog. For now, your goal should be to simply get started with an idea, setting up the blog and start blogging consistently
